The existing asphalt surface had deteriorated significantly through years of use, while the available parking provision no longer met the demands of staff and visitors.
The project required both resurfacing works and the creation of additional parking spaces within a strict programme deadline.

The Challenge
The existing car park had become worn and uneven, impacting both appearance and long-term performance.
In addition to resurfacing the existing parking areas, the college required additional parking capacity to maximise available space on site.
Key challenges included:
- Tight programme requirements.
- Working within a live educational environment.
- Maintaining safe access throughout the project.
- Delivering both surfacing and parking expansion works within a five-day programme.
Our Solution
Smart Surfacing Solutions developed a phased programme to ensure works were completed efficiently and safely.
The project included:
- Planing off the existing asphalt surface.
- Installation of 50mm SMA10 asphalt surfacing across the existing car park.
- Excavation of adjacent grassed areas to create additional parking bays.
- Installation of a full construction build-up comprising:
- MOT Type 1 sub-base
- AC-20 binder course
- SMA10 surface course
- Construction of new edging details.
- Full reinstatement and remarking of parking bays and traffic management markings.
All works were completed within the required five-day programme.
