We were appointed to undertake extensive resurfacing works across multiple areas of Harrow Weald College, including access roads, pedestrian routes and sports facilities.
The existing surfaces had deteriorated significantly, with widespread wear, trip hazards and localised structural failures affecting both safety and usability across the site.
The project required a combination of machine-laid and hand-laid asphalt surfacing together with targeted reconstruction works to rectify underlying structural defects.

The Challenge
The college required a safe, durable and visually improved surface solution that could be completed within a strict programme window.
Several challenges were identified during the project:
- Extensive wear and deterioration across multiple surface areas.

- Planing off existing asphalt surfaces to a depth of 40mm.
- Reconstruction of failed areas within the sports court.
- Excavation and replacement of defective construction layers.
- Installation of new pavement build-up where structural failures were identified.
- Supply and installation of SMA10 asphalt surfacing.
- Machine laying of accessible areas.
- Hand laying of restricted-access sections to achieve a consistent finish throughout the site.
Particular attention was given to maintaining high-quality workmanship within areas inaccessible to large paving equipment, ensuring a seamless finish across the entire project.
The Results
The completed works significantly improved the safety, appearance and long-term durability of the college’s external surfaces.
Key outcomes included:
- 1,700m² of resurfaced asphalt areas.
- Removal of existing trip hazards.
